On Veterans Day KHS student council honored local veterans through an assembly. It began with Peyton Vanpool praying for our veterans, Jaylie Sumner leading the Pledge of Allegiance and the choir singing the national anthem. Gabby Jones delivered a welcome and introductory words to honor and thank veterans of all wars.
Jasmine Akin introduced the guest speaker, 2nd Lt. Dakota Carrington from the OK Army National Guard. Lt. Carrington is a candidate for Chaplain and he shared his inspirational story of why he chose to serve.
The choir, led by Mrs. Desiree Jones, sang "I Pledge Allegiance" featuring soloists Kylie Melton, Sawyer Solomon, and CJ Weeks.
Presenting a table set for one in remembrance of POWs and MIAs were Rylee Witt and Olivia Gray. They explained the symbolism of each part of the table setting.
Madison Hadley and Jaylie Sumner recognized the veterans and service members in attendance. Adison Mendoza explained the history of Veterans Day. Gabby Jones closed the assembly and students greeted and thanked the veterans in a receiving line.
